Large ceramic vase with lid, entirely painted by brush on majolica according to the traditional technique of Faenza.
The decoration is in the "Raphaelesque" style, referring in fact to the style that Raffaello Sanzio used in the Renaissance to paint the Vatican loggias. During the nineteenth century the Faenza ceramicists take up this Renaissance style, and use it to frame scenes and landscapes. Since then it has become one of the typical decorations of Faenza majolica.
On the front of the vase a bucolic scene is depicted representing a mother repairing her child with a mantle. On the back, instead, dragons, fish and masks hold up the ideal frame of a small landscape.
Unique piece entirely shaped and hand painted. Signed and dated.
