Hand painted Faenza majolica cookie jar with Melograno decoration.
The Melograno (pomegranate) decoration dates back to the 1920s and is characterized by the use of pure gold in the third firing on the majolica: the diluted gold dust is brushed on the majolica already fired at 900 ° C, to be subsequently fired again at 700 ° C, restoring the original texture and brilliance to the precious metal. It is one of the most precious and appreciated traditional decorations in Faenza.
Dimensions of the Melograno cookie jar: height 20 cm - width 22.5 cm.
(The white glare on the majolica is due to the reflection effect of the photograph)
