Madonna of the Pomegranate 39 cm
Hand painted ceramic inspired by the design by Raffaello Sanzio for the Madonna del Pomegranate (around 1504).
The pomegranate is a fruit that has generated innumerable symbolisms in history. In the Middle Ages began to appear in the paintings of sacred subjects as a symbol of the Resurrection, while in the hands of the Madonna alludes to chastity. In this ceramics the fruit of the pomegranate is kept both by the Madonna and by baby Jesus, thus conveying both meanings.
The relief ceramic is painted in soft colors, in the background a landscape that recalls the Romagna Apennines.
Dimensions: 39 x 29 cm, thickness 5 cm.
(The white spots on the piece are due to the reflection effect of the photograph)
