Hand-decorated ceramic vase with Pavone (peacock) and Curled Leaves.
The peacock feather eye is a traditional decoration of majolica, widespread since the fifteenth century in central Italy. Of oriental derivation, it carries symbolic meanings of eternal life and immortality of the soul.
In this vase the Peacock style is combined with the Leaf crumpled or Cartouche, a typical decoration of Raphaelesque. The effect obtained is that the peacocks seem to bloom from the long curled, stylized and sinuous leaves that surround it, like gems wrapped in blue and turquoise shades of petals.
Dimensions: height 40 cm, maximum width 24 cm.
(The white spots on the majolica are due to the reflection effect of the photograph)
