CategoryMajolica plate decorated with roses on the brim and “Boy bitten by a Lizard” in the centre, a tribute to the famous painting by Caravaggio.
Entirely painted by Laura Silvagni in 2004, the decoration combines the rose – the true theme of the decoration – with leaves and jasmine, forming a weave that frames the center.
The lizard emerges from the flowers and fruits in which it was hidden, a metaphor for the pleasure and pain of love. The male figure is effeminate, he wears a rose in his hair (a reference to love) and has his right shoulder uncovered; the paired cherries would be a sexual symbol, while the white jasmine would allude to desire.
Dimensions of the plate with Boy bitten by a lizard: diameter 61 cm, height 6.5 cm.
