Madonna of the Grapes 47.5 cm

Large panel with Madonna with child inspired by La Vierge aux raisins (The Virgin of grapes, 1640) of Pierre Mignard.

La Vierge aux raisins is still preserved in the Museum of the Louvre in Paris. The bunch of grapes held in hand of the Madonna and the Child Jesus has a twofold significance. According to the Bible, is the sign that the early explorers brought to the people entering the promised land. It also identifies Mary as a fruitful vine par excellence, that has generated Jesus.
