Madonnina and Child 16 cm Palmetta

Hand-painted, shaped and relief Italian majolica Madonnina with Child.

The Madonna’s mantle is decorated with a pattern of Rosettes, the pinecone-shaped flowers of the Persian Palmette decoration seen from above. This is a traditional Faenza decoration that originated at the turn of the 1400s and 1500s and was inspired by Oriental textiles, as its name suggests. Among the various symbolism associated with the Palmetta is a reference to Paradise and the prosperity of life, the latter also linked to the creative power of a deity.
