Apothecary jar 24 cm Licorice

Hand-painted ceramic apothecary jar with Garofano decoration and “Liquerizia” (licorice) writing in the cartouche.

Garofano (carnation) is an oriental-inspired decoration that presents a carnation flower (very different from its real counterpart) in the middle of a blue and green garden. It is the most famous decoration of Faenza ceramics.

From the ground and boiled liquorice root is extracted the juice that is used to produce sweets and liqueurs, in the pharmacy to cover and shape the tablets, in cosmetics, for herbal teas, etc.

Size of the pharmacy jar for licorice: height 24 cm, maximum width 10 cm.
