Dried anise fruits are used for their digestive, carminative and balsamic properties both in herbal medicine and in the cooking. Anise extracts are also used as flavoring in deodorants, mouthwashes and toothpastes. The star anise, due to its star shape, also becomes a fragrant Christmas decoration.
