Apothecary jar 35 cm Myrtle

Hand-painted “pharmacy” vase for Mirto with Faenza Garofano decoration; the vase is equipped with a lid, also decorated.

All of the myrtle plant is used: from flowers an essence used in cosmetics is obtained; dried leaves are used in cooking or to prepare astringent infusions or decoctions to treat bronchitis; the berries are edible and the famous liqueur is obtained from them. In ancient times, myrtle was a plant sacred to Venus as it was believed that the goddess, just born from the sea foam, had taken refuge in a myrtle grove.
