CategoryHand-decorated majolica panel with September sowing scene.
Inspired by Pietro de’ Crescenzi’s Calendar of Agriculture, so depicted in a 15th-century illuminated codex of his famous Ruralium Commodorum libri XII (Treatise on Agriculture) of 1304, it represents the month of September, when sowing took place: the seeds remained “dormant” all winter, ready to sprout with the first sun of spring.
The decoration echoes the style of medieval illuminated manuscripts, with a frame of brightly painted leaves and flowers on a blue background outlining the scene.
The panel is set in a thin wooden frame, ready to hang on the wall. Size: 23 x 23 cm, thickness 1.2 cm.
